The application deadline is approaching for young hunters who wish to enter the drawing for two guided apprentice deer hunts at South Valley Ranch. The California Department of Fish and Game (DFG), in cooperation with the California Deer Association, is providing these hunts for two apprentice deer hunters on Sept. 18 and 19. Applications will be accepted until Aug. 30, and the two successful applicants will be notified by Sept. 10.

The 3,000-acre South Valley Ranch, located in eastern Santa Clara County, is approximately 32 miles south of Livermore and 25 miles east of San Jose. It was purchased by the Wildlife Conservation Board in 2007. Access is only permitted during scheduled events such as this hunt.

For further information about the hunt and instructions on how to apply, please visit www.dfg.ca.gov/delta/hunts/deer.

The hunts are open to junior license holders only. An adult chaperone 18 years or older must accompany each apprentice hunter but may not hunt. Successful applicants must attend a mandatory orientation on the first morning of the hunt and will be guided in the field by a member of the California Deer Association.
