Michigan DNR Offering Classes in Bear and Coyote Hunting

The Department of Natural Resources wants to ensure that hunters have all the knowledge they need for a successful hunting season and is offering two classes suitable for both the novice and experienced hunter. Bear Hunting 101 and Coyote Hunting 101 are taking place starting at noon Saturday, Sept.10, at the Rifle River State Recreation Area, 2550 E. Rose City in Lupton in Ogemaw County.

Vermont Bear Season Set to Begin - Sept. 1st

Vermont's bear hunting season is September 1- November 16 this year.

Vermont's bear population is now estimated at slightly more than 6,000 black bears, according to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. The number of bears has increased during the last two decades and is now higher than the objective of 4,500-6,000 bears listed in Vermont's Big Game Management Plan for 2010-2020.

Minnesota's Pine County Bear Hunters May Deal With Blowdown Changes

When bear hunters head to the woods to set baits in Pine County, they are likely to see changes in their usual hunting grounds. Two large storms in July led to blowdowns in St. Croix, Nemadji and Chengwatana state forests. Some areas have little change, but a large part of the forests have experienced high-impact blowdown, meaning 50 percent or more of the trees have been affected. Bear baiting began Aug. 12.

The first year of an online site developed to collect reports of black bear and bobcat sightings from citizens produced more than 800 reports. This information has been valuable in documenting presence and range expansion for both species, according to wildlife biologists.

Nevada Seeking Help in Black Bear Death

A member of the public discovered a bear shot and dumped on the east side of Peavine Peak near Kiowa Pond and reported it to Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) game wardens Tuesday.

Game wardens have initiated an investigation into the killing of the 200-pound male bear that had been shot several times.

"It's unfortunate anytime wildlife is unlawfully killed," said Game Warden Captain Cameron Waithman. "With little physical evidence at the crime scene, we will need the public's help in completing the investigation."

Idaho Controlled Hunt Tag Deadline August 1st

Big game hunters who names were drawn in controlled hunt drawings have to buy their tags by August 1.

Any tags not purchased by that date will be forfeit. After a second drawing, any leftover tags are sold over the counter.

Colorado DOW Officials Kill Bear Involved in Attack on Teen

Wildlife officials killed a bear believed to be involved in an unprovoked attack that injured a teenage camper in his tent near Leadville. Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials said the incident began at 3:30 a.m. Friday, July 15 when the teen was awakened as the black bear bit into his leg.

The victim fought off the bear and other campers scared the bear out of the area. Hundreds of campers are in the Twin Lakes area for the Colorado Bowhunters Association annual Jamboree.
