Barre Men Arrested in Plainfield Deer Poaching Case
Two Barre men were arrested on November 13 in Plainfield by Vermont State Game Wardens.
Vermont State game wardens arrested Bruce R. Larose, age 46, of Barre, VT and Michael A. Whitney, age 49, of Barre, VT for attempting to illegally shoot deer with the aid of a light Saturday night in Plainfield. The two men, along with a juvenile, allegedly shot at a deer at about 8:30 p.m. and were searching for the deer when wardens arrived and apprehended the suspects at the scene.
Mr. Larose was charged with "taking deer by illegal means at night with a light" and faces pending charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and violations of conditions of release from an earlier offense. Mr. Whitney was charged with "possession of a loaded rifle in a motor vehicle on a public highway," "driving under the influence of alcohol," and "driving while license suspended." Other charges are pending as the investigation continues. The wardens seized three firearms.
Potential penalties on second convictions for taking deer by illegal means include imprisonment for 60 days, a $1,000 fine, and $1,000 in restitution.
State police and Barre Town police assisted at the scene.
