Arkansas Public Meetings January 5th
Public input is a crucial component of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's process for setting hunting and fishing regulations, and the method of gathering public input will be slightly different beginning in January.
Arkansas Region E - Reopened to Hunting
Deer hunters in Flood Prone Region E will be able to hunt again after an emergency action by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The commission approved an emergency reopening for Flood Prone Region E during a meeting December 4th.
Arkansas Spring Turkey Season Will Remain Shorter
For the fourth consecutive year, commissioners with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission have agreed that a shorter season is needed to match gobbler harvest to recent below-average turkey brood production. It also will allow more hens to breed and start nesting before hunters take to the woods.

After voicing concerns about declining spring turkey harvests, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission today voted to close all 2009 fall turkey hunting seasons in the state.
Arkansas Deer Season Second Highest on Record
It was a very good year for deer hunting in Arkansas. Hunters recorded the second highest harvest total on record. Preliminary harvest figures show that almost 183,700 total deer were checked during the 2008-09 season.

During the short meeting, commissioners were provided a harvest report on the state’s recent elk season. Cory Gray, the AGFC’s new elk biologist, reported that a total of 16 elk were harvested during the state’s three seasons.
