Arkansas GFC Says Sheffield Nelson Misleading Public

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission released historical commission documents that show former commission Chairman Sheffield Nelson was involved in efforts to adopt new administrative procedures when he served at the agency. Nelson has filed suit against the commission claiming its attempts to alter the state rules are illegal.

Arkansas GFC Recommends Continuation of Conservative Turkey Season Structure

Biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission proposed continuing a conservative turkey season structure. The conservative season structure has been in place since 2007. If approved at the October meeting, the season would be 18 days for most of the state with an additional two-day youth hunt.

Arkansas GFC Will Fight Former Commissioner's Lawsuit

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has been sued in Pulaski County Circuit Court by a former commissioner.

Sheffield Nelson, who served on the Commission from 2000-07, filed the lawsuit Sept. 2. The lawsuit seeks a declaration from the court that current and past Commission decisions are invalid for failing to follow the Arkansas Administrative Procedure Act.

Arkansas 2009-10 Deer Season Second Highest on Record
During May's monthly meeting of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, commissioners were briefed on the state's recent deer season harvest. Brad Miller, AGFC deer program coordinator, told the commission the harvest was up again from the 2008-09 season.

Arkansas Big Game Seasons Set for 2010-11
Commissioners from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission formally approved regulation changes as part of the 2010-11 hunting season-setting process. One change would allow hunters, 65 and older, to participate in the January portion of the statewide youth season.
Arkansas Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Challenging Fall Turkey Closure
After a hearing of more than two hours, Pulaski County Circuit Judge Ernest Sanders Jr., on Wednesday granted the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's motion to dismiss a lawsuit that had been filed by a lone hunter seeking to prevent the Commission's closure of the 2009 fall turkey hunting season and to force opening of fall seasons in subsequent years.
Arkansas GFC Considers Hunting Season Proposals
At the monthly meeting in Little Rock, commissioners for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission were presented with proposals for the 2010-11 hunting seasons. The commission will study the proposals and make a final decision at its April meeting.
