Public Land Elk Permit Applications may be submitted online May 1-June 1, 2010. No paper applications will be accepted.

Available Public Land Permits

  • * 23 public land elk permits will be drawn at the annual Buffalo River Elk Festival, June 26.
  • * One public land elk permit will be available only to people who register during the festival. Registration is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., June 25 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 26. Applicants must supply a valid Arkansas driver's license, Arkansas-issued photo identification card or hunter education card (if under 16). The applicant must be present at 4 p.m., June 26 to win this tag.
  • * Two public land elk permits will be auctioned during fund-raising activities of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for elk habitat in Arkansas.
  • * One public land youth elk permit will be given to the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation for fund-raising purposes.

Hunters under 16 (as of May 1, 2010) must have a valid Hunter Education Number to apply for a permit.

Applicants with 12 AGFC violation points are ineligible to apply.

Only Arkansas residents or holders of a Lifetime Sportsman's Permit may apply for public land elk permits.

Duplicate, illegible or incomplete applications will not be processed.

Public Land Elk Hunt Details

Public land hunts are held on the Buffalo National River and Gene Rush Wildlife Management Area.

Dec. 6-10 Hunt Permits

  • * Elk compartment 1 – One bull permit and three antlerless elk permits
  • * Elk compartment 2 – One bull permit and three antlerless elk permits
  • * Elk compartment 3 – Two either-sex elk youth permits and five antlerless elk permits
  • * Elk compartment 4 – Two bull permits and five antlerless elk permits

Private Land Elk Permit Application Requirements

Private Land Elk Permit Applications may be submitted only by mail June 1-July 15, 2010. Complete applications must be postmarked on or before July 15, 2010.

Hunters under 16 (as of May 1, 2010) must have a valid Hunter Education Number to apply for a permit.

Applicants with 12 AGFC violation points are ineligible to apply.

Residents and nonresidents may apply for private land elk permits.

Only one application per hunter will be accepted for private land elk permits.

Duplicate, illegible or incomplete applications will not be processed. Landowners will be contacted to verify an applicant's eligibility.

Private Land Elk Hunt Details

The private land elk zone has been restructured for 2010. There will be one zone, consisting of all private land in Boone, Carroll, Madison, Newton and Searcy counties, except a portion of Boxley Valley.

December 6-10 Hunt Quota

Private land elk zone – 23 elk quota

  • 10 either-sex tags will be randomly issued to landowners registered on Private Land Elk Hunt Applications. The landowners will designate the hunter for these tags.
  • All other qualifying applicants will receive antlerless elk permits.
  • Private land antlerless elk hunting must end by 2 p.m. each day.
  • Private land hunters are required to call (800) 440-1477 each night and listen for the correct numeric prompt for updates on the number of elk harvested.
  • The hunt will end Dec. 10 or the evening that the 23 elk quota (10 either-sex, 13 antlerless) is met; whichever comes first.
