California Furlough Days May Affect Hunters Who Wait Until Last Minute

Bear hunters planning to scour the deer A zone for bear on the first day of the season must plan ahead this year. Because of state furloughs on the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month, 2010 season bear tags must be purchased before 5 p.m. on Aug. 12 in order to hunt on the Aug. 14 A-zone general bear season opener. Hunters who wait to buy their tags until the day before the opener will find that Department of Fish and Game (DFG) offices are closed, and tags will be unavailable until the offices reopen for business on Monday morning.

North Carolina Allows Crossbows - Requires Concealed Weapons Permit

Use of crossbows in North Carolina is now considered a legal hunting method that may be used by licensed hunters anytime bow-and-arrow hunting is allowed.

This change in hunting regulations has prompted an increase in crossbow sales. What has not changed are the requirements for legally purchasing a crossbow in North Carolina, reference state statutes N.C.G.S. 14-402, N.C.G.S. 14-403.

Many Texas Hunt Applications Due August 12th

Hunters hoping to take advantage of economical quality hunts on state-managed lands are reminded of upcoming application deadlines. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be offering adult and youth only hunts by special drawing for a wide variety of species as part of its Public Hunting Program.

Applications for several hunt categories, including all archery only and crossbow hunts, pronghorn, and TPWD private lands hunts are due by 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12. All gun deer and youth deer hunt category applications must be received by 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2.

New Mexico Leftover Elk, Deer and Javelina Tags Available in August

Youth and adult hunters who missed a shot at a big-game hunting license during this year's annual drawing will have another chance this August when the Department of Game and Fish puts more than 5,000 deer, elk and javelina licenses up for sale on the agency Web site.

Florida Quota Hunt Permits Will Not be Mailed This Year

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) wants to make hunters aware that beginning this year, quota permits for general gun, archery, muzzleloading gun, family, youth, airboat and track will not be mailed out to successful applicants as they have been in the past.

South Carolina to Hold Archery Hunts at Croft SNA

Three archery hunts will again be held this year at Croft State Natural Area in Spartanburg County in an effort to improve overall herd health and reduce significant deer damage to vegetation inside the park.

Addt'l Youth Archery Deer Permits Available in Utah

If you'll be 18 years of age or younger on Aug. 21, 2010 you can still get a permit to hunt buck deer in Utah this fall. Starting at 7 a.m. on July 8, 2010 a total of 1,500 general statewide archery buck deer permits will go on sale.

Missouri Changes Tag Availability for 2010 Deer Seasons

Missouri's 2010 fall deer and turkey hunting seasons and regulations are mostly the same as last year. However, unlimited antlerless permits will be available in two additional counties, and regulations at one conservation area have changed to help in surveillance for chronic wasting disease (CWD).

Ohio Opens 16 State Nature Preserves to Archers

An increasing deer population, resulting in negative impacts to native plant communities, has led the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Natural Areas and Preserves to coordinate special archery deer hunts at 16 state nature preserves across the state.
