Archery Deer Hunting Starts Oct. 1

Archery Season Offers Ample Time to Head to the Woods
Coming off a record setting archery season, deer hunters are looking forward to the opening of the archery deer season on October 1. During the 2004 archery deer season, bowhunters harvested 14,639 whitetail deer, topping the previous record of 14,278 set in 2002. The archery harvest was 16 percent of the total deer harvest.

Nebraskas 2005 archery deer season is open now and the first part of the season will continue through November 11. The second part of the season will be November 21 - December 31. The November firearm season will be November 12-20 and the muzzleloader season will be December 1-31.
Deer Archery Season Opener Today
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today that archery hunting for deer opens Thursday, Sept. 15, and continues through Jan. 31, 2006.
Crossbows Now Legal for All Hunters
Crossbows are now legal for all hunters to use during any hunting season that allows archery equipment, including the archery-only seasons, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).
BOW Program Offers Hunter Safety Class to Women
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program today announced that a few slots remain for an all-women's hunter safety class Aug. 27-28 at the Ingham County Conservation District in Mason and the DNR's Rose Lake Shooting Range in East Lansing.
Bowhunters Step up To Help with Wildlife Survey
More than 1,700 Iowa bowhunters participated in the first ever Iowa Bowhunter Observation Survey during the 2004 deer hunting season. The randomly selected bowhunters from across the state were asked to record the number of hours they hunted and the number of deer and selected furbearers they observed while hunting.
Archery-Crossbow Hunts to be Held at Santee State Park
Five archery-crossbow deer hunts will be held this year at Santee State Park in an effort to improve overall herd health and reduce significant deer damage to vegetation inside the park. The deadline for receiving applications is Friday, Aug. 5.
Archery Coming to Public Schools
If things go as planned, the Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Foundation will initiate an Archery in the Schools Program in 10 pilot schools this fall, according to a spokesman.
Lake Station Archery Range Grant Approved
The Department of Natural Resources has awarded to the Lake Station Parks Department a grant to construct an archery range in Riverview Park. The grant is for $95,250 with a match of $31,750 from Lake Station. The total project cost will be $127,000.
