Archery Hits the Mark for Texans

They may not be hunting for food for their families in District 12, like Katniss before The Hunger Games, but archery has still become a popular sport with children and teens across the nation. Seeing this increased interest, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department recently began work with the Archery Trade Association to offer archery programs and opportunities in communities across Texas.

Become a Hunter-bowhunter Education Instructor

The Southeast Region of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game has scheduled three new instructor workshops for individuals who would like to become hunter education or bowhunter education instructors.

The new instructor orientations will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the following dates at these locations.

North Dakota's NASP State Archery Tournament Scheduled in Bismarck

The state Game and Fish Department invites all North Dakota schools participating in the National Archery in the Schools Program to register for the annual state tournament. The 2012 tournament is held April 13-14 at the VFW Sports Center in Bismarck.

Ohio's Archery in the Schools Tournament Draws 1,319 Students

The winner of the 2012 National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) state tournament was Logan High School in Hocking County according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife, which coordinates the NASP for Ohio.

The state tournament was held March 2 in Columbus in conjunction with the Arnold Sports Festival, the annual fitness tournament developed by former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

2011 Wisconsin Archery Deer Season to be Longest in State History

The 2011 Wisconsin’s archery deer hunt that opens September 17 will be the longest bow deer hunt in state history.

For the first time, bow hunting will be allowed during the regular nine-day gun deer hunt in November. As before, there will be no deer hunting on the Friday preceding the gun deer hunt. This single day will now separate the early and late bow deer seasons.

The 2011 archery deer season runs from Saturday, Sept. 17, through Thursday, Nov. 17 and then from Saturday, Nov. 19, the start of the gun season, through Jan. 8, a Sunday.

West Virginia Early Antlerless Deer Archery and Muzzleloader Seasons Open in September

The special antlerless archery and antlerless muzzleloader seasons will open in September on private land only in select counties throughout the state, according to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR). The early archery season opens September 12, 2011, and closes September 17, 2011. The early muzzleloader season opens September 19, 2011 and closes September 24, 2011.  To participate in either of these seasons, hunters need to be aware of the following regulations.

Ohio Offers Special Archery Hunts on 9 Nature Preserves

In a continuing effort to protect native plant communities from the increasing population of white tailed deer, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Natural Areas and Preserves has scheduled special archery deer hunts at nine state nature preserves across the state.

Missouri Offers Free Bowhunting 101 Workshop - Sept. 10th

Bowhunters of every skill level are invited to the upcoming Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Discover Hunting event, Bowhunting 101. Experts from the United Bowhunters of Missouri, On Target Christian Archers and MDC will host the course on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Maintz Wildlife Area Archery Range from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"This will be a great day to showcase practical skills all bowhunters need in their repertoire when they head to the woods," said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist DeeDee Dockins.
