2006 Moose Hunt Lottery Closes May 26
Hunters who want to go after moose in New Hampshire this fall should enter the lottery soon. The deadline for the 2006 New Hampshire moose hunt lottery is May 26, and your chances of winning are better than ever because Fish and Game may issue more permits for the hunt this year.
Enter the lottery online (click here for online license sales), or pick up an application from any fish and game license agent. There is a nonrefundable $10 application fee.
Fish and Game has proposed to increase the number of moose hunt permits it will issue statewide to a total of 675 in 2006 and 2007 (about 525 permits were issued in 2005). A significant portion of this increase is to help carry out Fish and Game's Big Game Management Plan objective to modestly reduce the moose population in the Connecticut Lakes region.
Don't forget -- you can improve your chance of winning by applying every year. Under a bonus point system in place since 2004, applicants' names are entered into the lottery one time for each consecutive year they apply, but are unsuccessful. If you skip a year, you'll lose all your accumulated points. (Click here for more on the bonus point system.)
Lottery applications for 2006 must be postmarked or submitted online by midnight Eastern Time, May 26, 2006, or delivered to N.H. Fish and Game headquarters in Concord prior to 4:00 p.m. that day. Winners will be selected through a computerized random drawing on June 23, 2006.
