2003 Camp Ripley Youth Archery Hunt Apps Available
The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association is accepting applications for a youth-only archery deer hunt to be held on Oct. 11-12 at Camp Ripley near Little Falls. A maximum of 150 permits will be issued to eligible youth who are age 12-17 as of Oct. 8. Youth must have completed a hunter safety course and must have their application postmarked by Aug. 1.
An adult mentor, who will not be allowed to hunt or carry a bow and arrow, must accompany all youth during the hunt. A random drawing on Aug. 8 will be held publicly at MDHA in Grand Rapids to select hunt participants.
Successful applicants and their parents or guardians will identify an adult mentor to accompany youth. Hunt sponsors will assist with identification of appropriate mentors if requested by youth and their parents or guardians.
Youth hunters will be required to have a valid Minnesota archery deer hunting license or all-season deer license and attend a prehunt education and orientation session. Permits will allow youth to take only one deer during the hunt. No group applications or party hunting will be allowed. Deer of either sex can be taken. Youth will not be allowed to take deer with management permits during this hunt.
To apply, Minnesota resident youth must provide a customer ID from one of the following:
• a valid Minnesota driver's license
• state of Minnesota ID card (issued by the Department of Public Safety)
• a firearms safety certificate number
• a bowhunter education number, or
• the DNR number found on a current hunting or fishing license.
Nonresidents must supply their state driver's license or ID, hunter safety certificate, bowhunter education number, or DNR number if they purchased a hunting or fishing license between 2000 and 2003.
It is important that the ID card reflect the applicant’s current mailing address, which is where the notification will be sent if successful in the computer drawing.
Youth must apply for a permit by completing a 2003 Camp Ripley youth archery hunt application. Application forms are available by calling MDHA at 1-800-450-DEER (3337), or by downloading an electronic application at MDHA’s Web site at www.mndeerhunters.com; at Minnesota State Archery Association’s Web site at www.mnarchery.com; or at Minnesota Bowhunters Inc. Web site at www.strictlybowhunting.com/mbi.
A processing fee of $4 per application is required. This nonrefundable fee must be sent in with the application for a Camp Ripley youth archery permit.
This is the second year of the Camp Ripley youth deer hunt. MDHA is coordinating the hunt with the Minnesota DNR, Minnesota State Archery Association, and the Department of Military Affairs, which manages the 53,000-acre military reservation.
