2003 Black Bear Season Meeting and Comment Period

Proposed 2003 black bear seasons and regulations will be discussed at public meetings held across Wyoming Jan. 21-23 by the Game and Fish Department. Written comments about the proposals will be accepted through Jan. 24.

Regulation changes for 2003 include creating a new a new hunt area near Cody, modifying the boundaries of areas 25 and 26 to create the new area and expanding hunt areas 3 and 5 in the Bighorn Basin. Slight increases in mortality quotas are being proposed for areas 1-5, 7, 13 and 28.

The G&F believes black bear populations appear stable. The proposed seasons are established to maintain populations at existing levels. The meetings begin at 7 p.m. at the following locations:

Jan. 21 Lander G&F Regional Office
Jan. 21 Cody Park County Courthouse
Jan. 21 Sheridan G&F Regional Office
Jan. 21 Jackson G&F Regional Office
Jan. 21 Laramie G&F Regional Office
Jan. 23 Green River G&F Regional Office

The G&F Commission will act on these regulations at their Feb. 24 meeting in Cheyenne.
