2003 Bighorn Permit Winner Selected

Steve Furley of Norfolk became the lucky winner of the 2003 Nebraska bighorn sheep lottery hunting permit when his entry was pulled from a metal barrel containing 1,595 applications during the Game and Parks Commission meeting in Lincoln Aug. 29.

Bradley Eriksen of Omaha won the 2002 bighorn lottery permit, and Bert Kizer, of Woodstock, Ga., was tyhe highest bidder on another permit authorized for sale by auction at the Safari Club International Convention in Las Vegas, Nev. Kizer took the permit with a bid of $55,000. Furleys permit awarded by lottery, is the only one authorized by the Game and Parks Commission for the 2003 bighorn sheep season, Nov. 30 - Dec. 22.

Furley will receive free guide service, use of horses, up to four nights lodging and meals for up to four days at Fort Robinson State Park. The hunting area is limited to parts of Dawes and Sioux counties north of the Niobrara River and west of Nebraska Highway 2. He will be able to choose using a modern rifle, muzzleloader, or archery equipment for the hunt.
