The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission's 2002 Big Game Hunting Guide is being mailed to every hunter who purchased a deer permit last year by mail or over-the-counter at a Commission office. Those who purchased their permit online at the Commission's web site are being sent an e-mail with a link to the online brochure.

The Nebraska Big Game Guide is a 32-page booklet that provides all of the information a hunter needs to apply for a permit and plan a hunting trip for antelope, deer, elk or bighorn sheep this fall. It contains season dates, unit maps, and application permit forms.

The first deer permit application period will be April 8-30. During that period residents may apply for their first permit in a Draw Unit online or by mail. Beginning May 6 residents who did not apply for a permit in a Draw Unit may purchase their first permit in a Buy Unit. Applicants should note that all applications have equal opportunity for success regardless of when application is made during the application period. During this application period permits are not issued on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Those who did not receive a deer permit last year will be able to obtain their free copy of the 2002 Nebraska Big Game Guide at Game and Parks Commission offices and from some 900 permit agents across the state by April 12.

Those who want to see and/or download the brochure online can find it online now at the Commission's web site at www.outdoornebraska.org.
