Oregon’s Controlled Hunt Draw Results Now Online

Hunters that applied for a 2012 fall controlled hunt can find out if they drew the tag online at ODFW’s Hunting Resources page.

Hunters will need to enter their Hunter/Angler ID#, last name, date of birth, and then click My Hunter Information and Draw Results.

A postcard with results will also be mailed this week to all hunters that applied for a controlled hunt.

Big Game Raffles, Auctions Gross More than $523,202 in Oregon

The 2012 ODFW auction and raffles for big game hunting tags grossed $523,202, of which $308,566 will go to the Access and Habitat Program and $179,937 to big game research and management.

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation: $1.2 Million for Habitat Work in Six States

So far in 2012, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has allocated $1,258,888 for habitat stewardship and protection projects in six key elk states. The figure represents a significant increase from 2011.

More than 139,000 acres should be conserved for elk and other wildlife in 2012 as a result of these initial allocations.

Affected states include Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.

RMEF will announce funding allocations for additional states later this year.

Oregon Sports Pac Winners Announced: Last Drawing is for Hunters that Apply for Controlled Hunt by April 15

A lucky 28 Oregon hunters won a 2013 Sports Pacs (a $164.75 value) and two out-of-state hunters won a 2013 Non-Resident Hunting License ($140.40 value) because they applied early for their 2012 fall big game controlled hunts. The 30 names were drawn among hunters that applied for a controlled hunt by March 15, 2012.

Oregon Wenaha Wolf Collared Today

ODFW collared a 96-pound male wolf from the Wenaha pack today in northwestern Wallowa County. The wolf was released in good condition.

Bald Eagle Soars Off Oregon’s Endangered Species List

The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission today approved removing the bald eagle from the Oregon Endangered Species List. Commissioners called recovery of bald eagles in Oregon a great success made possible through the cooperation of many agencies, landowners and other partners. Biologists estimated a minimum population of 570 nesting pairs of bald eagles in Oregon in 2010, compared to just 65 pairs in 1978. The bald eagle was removed from the federal list of threatened and endangered species in 2007. Bald eagles are still protected under a number of state and federal laws.

Elgin resident Chad Thompson bought just 15 2011 elk raffle tags, spending under $50—but won a three-month long hunting season, a privilege some pay thousands for at auction. Thompson ended up bagging a trophy animal on public land (Wenaha Wildlife Area), an elk that green scored over 400”.

“It was the first time I had bought raffle tickets,” said Thompson. “I got the 15 ticket package, sent them off and forgot about them. I was pretty surprised when I won.”
