Bag Your Bird on Opening Day There's nothing more discouraging than arriving at your favorite hunting spot on the opening morning of turkey season, and not being able to get a bird to gobble. That's exactly the situation I found myself in back in April of 2008. The fact that the temperature was hovering right around the freezing mark and there was a heavy frost on the ground probably didn't help matters any. Despite the lack of gobbling activity, I knew from my time preseason scouting that birds frequented this field and it was a popular strutting ground for at least one mature gobbler.

The ShadowShield Predator Blind Review I began hunting in the 1980's and camouflage choices basically consisted of military camo or the original TreebarkĀ® pattern. Although both helped in certain situations, I spent many hours in the woods thinking about how to hide better. The trees, the forest floor and the brush piles all had their own unique colors. The idea of having to be right next to a tree to blend in was too limiting. Recently I was introduced to The ShadowShield, a line of portable, mirrored blinds. I was excited to find out if it worked as good as it sounded.

Massachusetts 8 Point Deer This is one of two deer that I harvested this past 2008 season in eastern Massachusetts zone 11. The first one was a 7 point, one hundred eighty pound buck. This one is my biggest to date, was an 8 point two hundred two pounds that I shot at forty yards. All deer that I have taken have been by bow only. I'm looking very much towards the 2009 season!
Take Photos and Videos While Stalking Use your video and still camera while stalking or tracking. Take a picture (or video) of where you last saw your animal, either on a stalk, or tracking. Landmarks that you thought would be unmistakable can easily be lost in the 'blur' of all the others (and in all the excitement). So, pull out your camera and go back a few frames, or your video camera and rewind. There's no point in relying on...[Read More]
