 I was 12 when I started hunting but snared rabbit and hunted squirrels with a pellet gun from age 8 on. |

 Like Chester, I was 8 or so for small game (rabbits), although big game wasn't until I was 12, although I'd been tagging along for years before that. |

 We had 200 head of cattle so meat was never in short supply. Dad figured hunting was a waste of time - if you wanted/needed deer meat just go shoot one there were so many around there was little challenge in getting " a deer". So I had to wait til I was 16 and could legally hunt alone when I started hunting. I plinked lots of nuisance squirrels/rabbits and even a couple mangy coyotes before that though. |

 I started tagging along when I was 7 or 8, but didn't shoot my first animal until 12. State law at the time said you couldn't carry a gun until then. |
