Seem's to me that Wash did away with hunting cougar with hounds in the early 90's, compliment's of the people of Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia. Not that long after that, cats were reported creating scares where they hadn't befor; civilization. Now this 5 yr old boy get's attacked and some cat is going to die over it. I say some cat because I doubt that the cats are required to report humans they've attacked! So first cat caught will be shot. Feel better Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia?

All that was necessary in the first place was to leave the hound hunter's alone, cats avoided humans then!

I agree with you Don, we all know the risks when we venture out into the outdoors and I would like to think this this family knew this also especially coming from Rosland (there is no shortage of cougars there).
I used to live in the Kootenays also and we always had cougars around, but we were responsible enough to manage the risk.
