This is my home town, I know Judge Bailey and this situtation. I will have to phone home and get the new low down and give you guys the gossip. I might even have a photo of the deer around somewhere. |

They are NOT messing around anymore, the poachers will pay.I say great. They have decimated the antelope in my area and the NMDGF is going to close it for a few years. _________________ hank4elk |

This guy got caught because he was in the restaurant showing photos and bragging about the deer. Lots of people saw the deer and the photos and finally someone turned him in.
I predict that he might plead not guilty and claim that the deer was not killed in New Mexico., which is something they would have to prove. I think it was killed in Texas, because this deer was killed somewhere behind my father’s house. There is about a 5 mile strip between his house and Texas state line. Most of the deer that I have seen there are hanging out on the Texas side. The penalties are probably less in Texas if they will charge him with it at all.
His original charge was for being in possession. Which he will be stuck with but they will have to prove where he killed it.
I know that 10,000 dollars sounds like a lot of money. But in perspective that is about the same or in most case less than a mule deer hunt would cost you. The Jicarilla Apache Indian Tribe gets 15,000 for a mule deer hunt.
I think they should make it 50,000 to be in possession, then they don’t have to prove you killed it. |

I'm glad to see this. I hope the poachers get the message. I have complained to the NMGF for years about the Texan road hunters running up and down the road(hunting) throughout the Guadalupe's. Years back, poachers just about crippled the deer hunting in the upper Pecos river canyon. They're finally coming back, but it took a long time. Hobbs is my hometown, I'll be through later on my way to the Pecos to hunt to visit/check on Ma. If I see Mr. Bradley I'll stick my tongue out at him!! |
