They have a horrible elk problem up in packwood right now. The news showed them actually rubbing on the buildings and homes. The problem is unfortuantely for packwood they get the yakima herd coming into town from the east(herd pop: 8,000) and from the south they get the st helens herd(pop 15000). Part of the problem is that the state will not release extra tags to take care of this issue. Take the st helens herd, the herd is overpopulated by atleast 5000 elk, the state has known this for years and always is saying next year more tags. This is unfortunate for the town but it comes down to the mismangement by the state.
