September 2008 Product Review

Sako A7 Review

In the history of hunting rifles, Sako stands out for accurate, quality rifles. However over the years the price for a new Finnish made Sako has continued to climb and today even the least expensive Sako 85 is over $1575. New for 2008 is Sako's A7 rifle which will have a suggested retail of around $850-$1000 almost half the cost of an 85. The new rifle and pricing puts the A7 squarely in the middle of the hunting rifle market and we decided to review the A7 to see if it stands up to the Sako tradition. Read more...

I haven't heard any word on this gun yet but would love to hear some reviews. I own a sako greywolf in a 25-06 and I love that gun but it was a once in a lifetime purchase. if these A7's are even close to as good a gun as my greywolf I might be able to afford to own a second sako.

Anyone hear anything?

Purchased a Sako A7 is stainless 30.06 last week. Will be picking it up this weekend and as soon as I make it to the range will post my results. It is topped with a Swarovski 4x12.

Brought the A7 out to the range today. Ran both Federal Vital Shok 165 Barnes TSX and Hornday Accubond 150 through it. Although the wind was blowing around 30-35 mph, the accuracy was very good. Had the federal shooting hole in hole with 5 shots within 1 inch and the hornady was almost as good. Very impressed.

I am interested by a Sako with synthetic stock and stainless. Considering the important price difference between the Sako 85 and the A7, but with relatively minor differences in the appearent characteristics that cannot explain in itself the price difference, maybe the stainless steel used for the A7 is of lower quality than the one used for the Sako 85. I did not see any evaluation on this important item. Finding rust on the barrel after one or 2 hunting seasons is really not interesting with a rifle of that price.
Does someone has more information on the quality of stainless steel used for the Salo 85 and the A7?
