Yes -- I plan to spend a lot more money on hunting. At over a hundred bucks a tank it adds up pretty quick. My bear stand was up on the haul road (Dalton Highway) this year. On the weekend I got my bear, I got off work on Friday, headed up the road, and hunted until after 2 AM. Then I got a couple hours sleep in the back of the truck before heading back due to a work commitment. Then it was back up the road by afternoon. Got the bear around 10 PM, but didn't get back on the road until after 2 AM. Finally got to bed around 5:30 AM.
Needless to say, I wasn't crazy about spending over a hundred bucks on gas and a lot of time on the road just because a DV wanted to come talk to us for an hour on Saturday. But the alternative was to stay home and give up on bear season.
Two tanks of gas in a 24 hour period was painful, but that's the price of doing business. If anything, it puts more emphasis on taking one truck instead of two, and spending nights in the field vs coming home each day. |

In the past, I've only stayed a few nights out in the woods. This year, I plan to stay for a couple weeks. I can't afford to be driving back and forth so much.
It'll be good. Gives me an excuse to take more time off work. |
