January 2008 Feature Article

How We Think - Affects Our Hunting

Our own Serious Hunter (Jeff Filler) wrote the following piece. It will make us "think" about how we approach hunting!

Many articles have been written about hunting tactics, equipment, clothing, areas, regions, the various animals, guides, preparation, and so on. And while all these things are important, I find that there is something else that comes into play, less talked about, but equal or more in importance that, in my experience, unleashes greater success and richer hunting experiences. In fact, I find that there is something else that can even trump where you are on the learning curve, or on the equipment curve, or on the experience curve, or whether or not you have a guide or experienced partner. It's how we think. What goes on in our minds may well determine whether or not we 'beat the odds' and come back with an enjoyable experience.

Jeff, you may be on to something....

This is one of my favorite quotes..."“Attitude”

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company ... a church ... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past ... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude ... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you ... we are in charge of our Attitude." - Chuck Swindoll

I think that your article was the best ive ever read . and ive read alot of them, If you dont deam the experience, then why would you want it? Thats what makes it so good weather you win or loose doesnt matter, its what you bring to the table that counts, it builds the spirit within us. you dont have to prove anything to anyone but one'self. and if you open your mind and inner self youll sence when game is close where others see nothing and opertunities will manifest for you as long as you believe and make it possible, and its great when that dream does come, but if you go newton on yourself you'll be distracted and looking the other way . Its your kind of Attitude and dreaming that makes most of us love and respect the outdoors AS ONE WITH IT. as you do. and can make it happen in stride.
