But atleast the ones getting left out time and time again will have a better chance to draw a tag. As long as there are not as many tags as hunters somebody is going to get left out. This will help their chances of atleast eventually getting a tag. |

Unfortunately the bad odds on some draws are a sign of the times. You are not alone. There are sheep and goat draws in some special areas in BC and Alberta where there are 2 permits and a couple of thousand people apply. Preference points do not help you in those types of situations.........even when you max out on preference points you are competing against hundreds of others who are in the same boat.
Hunters in the US face this type of situation with certain big game animals in many states........there are a lot of once in a life time permit situations as well.
The US of course has a much larger population, but as our Canadian population grows and demand outstrips availability, this is going to be a more common problem facing hunters everywhere.
Sadly there is no easy answer to these situations, where hunter demand is far greater than the annual allowable harvest. All you can do is keep applying and hope for the best............or save your nickels and go to another province where you can buy a tag over the counter.
For example, non-resident Canadians can buy an over the counter moose tag in the open zones in northern Manitoba and they do not need a guide. Yes I know.....Manitoba is a long way from NS........... but my point is there are other options out there. It all depends on how badly you want to go moose hunting. _________________ Let no good deed go unpunished. |

I tink they should go to the old system where you had to shoot and hit a target in order get the licence, it would eliminate a lot of applicants like wives that cant shoot, grandmothers that can hardly walk and the the guys that just apply for someone else to hunt.
just my 2 cents |

I agree with Cormier for several reasons:
About five years ago here in NS , one of the successful Moose Draws Applicants was a gentleman who was legally blind, seeing-eye dog, disability benefits etc.
I just couln't believe it and still find it hard to comprehend.
I will most willingly provide his name & address upon request.......... |

The other thing that is happening everywhere is the anti-hunters go and take the hunter training course and then start putting in the draws and draw tags with no intention of ever using it, but instead have 'saved a life'.
My wife puts in the draws, but she actually kills stuff and has shot more moose than most of the male hunters I know.................but I know what you meant and it is a common occurence indeed. Sadly there is no way to prevent this.
The shooting test as they do in Sweden would certainly help to eliminate the problem, but I doubt you will get many backers when push comes to shove. _________________ Let no good deed go unpunished. |

didn't change things enough , I haven't had my name pulled since 1983 and not again this year they need to eliminate all the people who don't hunt..shoot or don't own a gun ! in the circle of people i know hunters get as many people to apply as they can <hunters> so they can go as second gun in many cases that person dosen't leave the camp i meet a few hunters that tell oh yes i got 3 tags to fill this year ! same guys go every year ... I'll give up hunting moose altogether before i resort to that .Also why sell out of province licences with such low cotas ? Money is why government only interest is $$$ when it comes to hunting and fishing in this province ' If you call for a quote for a moose ,deer or bear hunt in the province they even quote you the price in american $$ |

This draw in NB is so flawed it stinks of suspicion.
Here is a letter I mailed to Brent Roy, Natural Resources, on June 5th 07.....
Never did get an answer.
Mr. Roy.
I am writing in regards to an article I viewed in the Telegraph Journal this morning, June 5/07....(Non Resident Moose Licenses Defended).
I have two issues of which I would like you to clarify to me and all the other hunters in our region. One is your statement that, and I quote...
"People have to remember that this is essentially a lottery and it's a random draw. And there are no guarantees"...end quote....
First issue...".(RANDOM) DRAW"
Random....without pattern: done, chosen, or occurring without an identifiable pattern, plan, system, or connection.
I and many others would like to know how a computer can make a ""RANDOM" draw. Does not a computer have to be "PROGRAMMED" to perform a certain funtion?
Programme.....to "INSTRUCT" a device or system to operate in a particular way or at a particular time:
To me and many others ..."random" and "programme" are at the opposite ends of the spectrum so to speak.
Issue two...."Lottery"
LOTTERY...situation where outcome depends on chance: an activity, situation, or enterprise with an outcome "dependent on chance"
Can you please explain to me and others how this so-called lottery is "dependent on chance", when someone has to install a "programme"?
Anxiously awaiting your reply.....
Sincerely... _________________ Hunt Sure
