I'm new to the whole mock scrape thing, so a question: how many on average, say in a day, does a buck make scrapes? I guess where I'm going with it is, how often should I start a "new" scrape or how many should be made at one time?

from what I've been reading in WHITETAIL ADVANTAGE by Dr. David Samuel & Robert Zaiglin, you can create mock scrapes as often as you want! Make sure you make them in direct eyesight of a "real" scrape and make sure it has an overhanging branch. Placing doe urine into the scrape on the ground is NOT necessary......visual and the overhanging branch is MOST important here! It has been documented that you can change their entire route by placing mock scrapes off the real scrape into a path direction that better suits your treestand/blind's needs but be aware of the wind paths as well!

Good luck

I succesfully made mock scrapes within view of a big active scrape and was able to bring a few BIG bucks down a draw they weren't using regularly during my hunt in Kansas the past 2 weeks. I found other trees with an overhanging branch, sprayed buck scrape onto the branch, then scraped the ground really well to show a big bare earth spot that was dug up pretty good using a piece of downed timber, then poured estrus doe urine into the scrape. I made several mock scrapes from the active scrape and was able to turn them into a frenzy that made them start a new trail right down to my ladder stand. It worked VERY well!
