Another hunting is upon us, Oct 1st, I have been out there scouting and have a couple of cameras out. Have seen two 8's, one 6, and a 4 pointer. The chiggers and the ticks are terrible and hard to avoid. I plan to walk in on a trail and get up into a tree as quickly as possible to avoid those parasites. I can only hope that the cold weather comes early to knock them down a bit. Good luck to all see ya out there.

Went out Oct. 1st, for an afternoon hunt and didn't see a deer. Went out Oct 2nd and at about 9:30 AM saw two does at about 60 yards, at about 11:30 saw one doe at about 80 yards. My range is within 30 yards so no shots were taken. I plan to go out Fri. 10/9 sunrise to sunset.

I have heard early November. I'g going to western NY Nov. 4 to 12 so I hope they are right.
A friend of my son's just got an 8 pointer from Chenango County he said the buck had his nose to the ground. So I guess they are starting to chase.

I think that there are more things factored in than just the weather. They have to reproduce and they will.

Out this morning, oct 26, saw a slammer! First good deer I've seen since February! Up until now just small 4 and 6 pts. They have started trolling for does, and the does are getting a bit spooky towards the bucks. It's on! Good luck, I'll be back out tomorrow to see if the big guy is back.

Hi all,
I'm new to bowhunting and will be trying to take my bow out sometime soon in the Rocky Pt area. I've rifle and shotgun hunted upstate, but have never gotten anything. Since then, I've studied a little more, but unfortunately have not been able to do any scouting. I've also had several work and family issues over the last month that have kept me from getting out there until now.

Would anyone be able to help me with a couple things I've been thinking about before I stumble out there?

- To hunt off Whiskey rd, do I need to check in or reserve a space, or can I just pull up at 5:30, park, and hike in?
I have the access and parking permits already.

- Without scouting and being fairly inexperienced, should I proceed, or wait until I can find someone to help me out? I'm figuring even if I just get out there with no clues and can be silent and scent-free in a tree, my odds are better than if I don't at all.

- What's the off-peak hour for travel through the woods? I was thinking of getting in the tree by 6, and out of the woods to go to work around 9:30a.

- How crowded is the area this time of year? Should I expect a car in every spot and a hunter ever 200 yards, or is it a little better than that? Anyone have days where they don't see any other hunters?

- Am I allowed to carry a shotgun for turkey and a bow for deer when the two seasons overlap? The hunting guide is ether not clear or I can't find that reg.

One thing I certainly don't want to do is ruin another guys hunt. I'm not sure if I should get there at 5:30, or maybe wait til 5:45 so I'm not taking someone's spot that's actually done the scouting and work in the area.
