So i have been on Oahu 2 years and just received my hunting license as of now i have no means of hunting. I am thinking of a 30-30 lever action it seams reasonable. but until then I am practicing my tracking skills off the Pali in hunting unit F. the closest i have come was some tracks and scat. Any tips for the new guy

The Pali hunting area is open for archery only. If you like the area, you might want to look into getting a bow. If your interested in rifle hunting there are plenty of other hunting areas on Oahu. You can get maps of the areas at the DLNR office. Hunting Oahu will limit you to pigs and goats. If you want to hunt deer and sheep on public land, you will have to put in for the lotteries and hunt Lanai. If your looking into purchasing a rifle, I would recommend a bolt action in .270 or .30-06. With a lever action rifle you'll be handicapped in open areas.

Well I am not set on using a rifle a bow would be a greater challenge which I like. Yesterday I went on another scouting mission. I was very successful I came across three very large Pigs I observed them for a while it was a rush just seeing them. Now every thing i have read says that they stay in the same area if this is true now I just need a bow to go get them but i have never used one nor can I afford one, Lame. So if any one would like to go on a hunt i would love to just follow and help with the gutting and cleaning. Eventually i will have a means of hunting but until then i can only observe any suggestion on a good bow for a beginner
