Right on man!!! Never hunted mulies either - none up our way (Nipawin area), but always wanted to. The only advice I have (and this is very flimsy) is that my buddy and his dad used to go hunt them near Rosetown...not much help I know.
Let us know how you make out. I'd love to bag one of those big-racked bad boys some day.

I was only out in that area once; went to a farm auction there.
If there's any coulee's in the area, that's where I'd start. Glass for a buck laying right out in the open on a sidehill where he's got a good view. If you see does, odds are there's a buck laying down within a couple hundred yards.
If your zone includes the sandhills, there's your spot.
If one makes you, odds are he'll run directly away from you. Keep your gun on him, as unless he's running hard there's a good chance he'll "bound" maybe 100 yds, then turn broadside and look at you.
Mule are generally a bit bigger and heavier than whitetail(at least in the S). My buddy shot one a few yrs ago that when we first spotted it I swear we thought it was an elk. It was an old 3 pt, but man was it Huge. My hand only went maybe 2/3's around the base. Forget what it weighed. On the other hand, my son shot one 2 yrs ago that was a relatively small deer that had the biggest horns I"ve ever seen on a mule in the area we hunt. Go figure. I always go after the one that's closest to the truck.
One last piece of advice: if they know you're after them in their "home area", they'll try to circle around you. Sometimes you can pick them up by heading back where you were. Or, they'll just bugger off, Ha.
Best of luck, make sure you post a pic.

You claim to be pretty familiar with the area, so you should have NO problem taking a 180 plus deer out of the area. I am very familiar with the area and can tell you they are there. I hunted zone 2 before it was divided into 2E and 2W that was a lot of years ago. I put groundhog onto the one he has in the photo above, 188 and change if i recall right. If you see one that makes you think HOLY SH**T , Shoot that one. Good Luck

well got my first mulie. it was a short hunt. money has been tight so i couldnt get down there to scout, or hunt long. left the house at about 7:30 saw this guy with a bunch of does and some smaller bucks, and liked him. had him shot, loaded and back at the house by about 8:15. hes not a monster, but i think hes a decent respectable deer. hes a 4x3 and i used a ruger mk 2 300 mag with nosler partition handloads with about 77 grains of powder. shot was a little over 200 yards. the one tine is over 15 inches long. not gonna bother getting him scored, never do. they are all trophies if i am happy with them
