Hi guys,

I found out about this scope from a hunter at the range, but I am not completely convinced since the scope's exterior doesn't look very durable.
Is there any other scope that beats shepherds range finding recticles?
What would you guys sugest?

Thanks so much! JZ

Not familiar with them at all, but read a few reviews, nothing bad, but why not Leupold, Bushnell, with well established records. warranty, service etc.
Don't go by appearence when it comes to scopes. The best scope made is by Schmidt & Bender and they are ugly enough to make an onion cry

hahhah.. Thanks hammer.

I have a hard time estimating distance to object. And I like recticles that help you read distance. What would you suggest for recticle?

Leupold. But, stick with a duplex or wide duplex reticle. When it comes to a scope, the simpler the better. For range estimation just get a good quality lazer range finder.

Yes, get a Range Finder.

I have a scope with a BDC(bullet drop compensator) and RF(range finder) that I bought around 1980 and have never used either of the features.

Guided a hunter last year with a Shepard scope, had never heard of one untill then. He swore by it and has hunted game all over the world. His was mounted on a quick release system on top of a .338. He hunted with us a few years ago and made an awesome shot on a goat at about 300+ yards.

I looked at the Shepherd scopes when I was looking for a scope for my long range varminter. They seemed like nice sturdy scopes and the gun smith that works on my rifles recommended that I look at them.
I ended up buying a Bushnell Elite 10x 40 with target towers.
