Looking at getting a new scope for my Ruger Deerfield carbine. Found one that I think would look good on the gun. It is a short 1.5 to 4 power but it is a 30mm as opposed to the standard(?) 1 inch. Would like some comments / concerns on the 30 mm compaired to the 1".
The deerfield rings have a special lock point and new rings (30mm) for the gun are $65, that along with the price of the new scope are making me a little leary. So any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks Eric |

30mm tubes provide better light transmission
The larger tubes and larger rings provide a firmer mount
30 mm scopes are heavier
Provide a larger field of view
Quality mounts/rings can get quite expensive.
They are definately superior to the 1 inchers, but like everything, at a price. |

Thanks Hammer
I guess weight will be the biggest issue followed by price. If it is worth it the price I can live with. If the scope weighs a ton forget it. I will do a little searching around for technical data. |
