Lepoards and Jags will stuff them up trees...cougars won't. I always hear about someones friend of a friend talking to some DNR guy and getting that story...it seems there would be evidence of it- i.e. Pictures, Reports...
Cougars just don't do that, they bury it.

My cousin saw one on our property and I'm wanting to try and get a picture of this beast. A neighbor had a mid size dog die of natural causes and they took it to the woods. When one of them was wandering the woods shortly after they found the dog carcass 12 ft. up a tree half eaten. Dont know of any other animal around here that could have done that. :o
I live in England, where, we have mountain lion and leopard. I have never been able to get a lion to take bait. They always eat live prey. Leopard are the only cat that will take a carcass up a tree. Leopard are easy to bait for. Dog is a leopards favourite food, followed by roast chicken carcass and fish and chip rappers.
In England, leopard don't take food up trees because they are not afraid of anything. You might find that you have wolves in your area sometimes. Wolves eat leopards and take food from them. Bear is another possibility along with jaguar, which is making a comeback in the States
