Tim, it doesn't matter who I work for. The bottom line is as a guide we work on average 12-15 hour days. We work damn hard for what little money we get. I don't guide just for the money, rather for the experiences that come with each and every hunt.

Like cowgal said, she tips 250-300 for a 3-4 day fishing trip, I also run a fishing company, guiding hunters for 7-10 days is a lot more work than a 3-4 day fishing trip, so where is your rational then cowgirl.

I just came back form a trip, seen lots of animals, no kill, passed up a small 5x6.......$300.00 tip.

Each to there own, don't worry who I work for Tim, I am now retired from guiding, and judging by most of these comments that have come about because of my personal opinion, I couldn't have done it sooner, because one day I might have gotten one of you for a hunter.

If you don't guide for the money and do it for the experience then why complain about how much you get tipped?
It would seem if there was a money issue then that should be taken up with the outfitter you are working for. A tip is a gratuitous gift. If it is a huge problem and considered a part of your pay then the outfitter needs to make it clear to the client what % is expected as a tip. If not take your gift and be happy you got anything.

What a JOKE!! I, too, think you got out of guiding at just the right time. I am only sorry that any hunter that didnt have enough money to satisfy your greedy needs ever had to put up with you. It is folks like you that give guides & outfitters in general a bad name, and a small part of why I havent used one to date. Why pay big money for a chance at an animal that I can hunt on my own, while NEVER taking the chance at haveing someone throw my hard earned money back at me cause "it wasnt enough."

And make no mistake about, your opinion is not what is being attacked. I am commenting on you childish ACTIONS. There is a fine line between the two. The paltry $200 offering may not have been good enough for you, but may have meant a hell of alot to the hunter offering it. Glad I was raised knowing what respect for others was.

Outfitters charge big $$, if you feel you were underpaid, I'd say it has more to do with the outfitter not paying enough. A tip is just that a "tip", not a requirement. A tip should only be given if a person feels they've been provided good servcie.

You never stated how long the hunts were. The average guided hunting trip in Colorado is about 5 days.

The bottom line, is I'll only tip if the service was good and it will be based on what I can afford. When we tip $250-300 it takes us a while to earn those $$, which are of course paid on TOP of the cost of the guided trip.
