Has anyone on BGH killed all 4 species of North American sheep? If not how many have you killed thus far?

dad has all but the Desert. Stone in BC mid 70's Dall Alaska late 70's and Rocky WY late 80's Drew another Wy Rocky this year unit 4 heading out Aug 27th.

Hopefully he will draw a tag to hunt a Desert? It is for sure a tough draw. I think Mexico has some tags that they sell but I believe it's like 20K.

Tim, you are more then likely right. I saw some hunt advertised for Ol Mex that were around 20K but I think it was some kind of cancellation deal and who knows maybe bogus or it could of been one of those 20K hunt plus, plus, plus and when you are done you spend 50K. Thanks for correcting me.

I did some checking because i want the grand slam. When the sheep hunt cost is low there seems to be a large trophy fee.

This is what i am seeing for costs:

Dall $8000-15,000
stone 18,000-28,0000

I haven't priced rocky mtns bighorns, because i got one in idaho a couple of years ago. Not a cheap sport. but oh so fun.

I got a Rocky in 04 and am going to put in for a Calif Bighorn in 07, but the Calif counts as a Rocky in the slam, as I understand it. I saw a beautiful mount of a Stone sheep the other day - makes me wanna get one. And I have seen some nice mounts or pics of Dall sheep. On the other hand - I have seen some rather stupid looking mounts of Rocky and Dall sheep (snout too short). I think it was more a result of the form the taxid used, rather than the animal, but I could be wrong. I am very happy with my mount, but I gave the taxid pics of the ram and made sure I had a good form. I would NOT be happy with some of the mounts I have seen here and there.

My dad sent me a pic of some Calif rams loitering about in the unit I want to hunt next year. Spectacular. Considering the source of the pics - I need to contemplate copyright issues. Maybe I'll put the pic on my website. It's presently the background on my computer screen. Hmmmm. I guess if you're passing thru town I could show you the pic ... :D .

Let me know when you put it on and I'll check it out. Driving all the way over to Idaho is out of my league, especially with gas prices @ $3.00 per gallon. :o

I have never shot a sheep but no animal gets me going more. Lost in a house fire several years ago were photo's I took that included several grand slams. I think that when I retire, money permiting, I'm going to Africa and then try to replace my photo's of sheep. Well money and physical being permitting. Have one really bad knee and a plate in my pelvis that slows me down.

Don't they live in the greatest places? Kluane (clu-wa-nee) in the Yukon has some great places to watch them. And years ago I used to stop on top of the Brooks Range going to Prudoe Bay to just watch them. There used to be places in the Virgin River Canyon (Arizona/Nevada border) and down around Hoover Dam where you could also watch desert's now and again. Along I70 west of Denver,Colo it's not uncommon to view big horns. Wonderful animals and wonderful country.

I hear ya on just lookin at the sheep. When i lived in alaska, i lived right below a dall sheep preserve. Pretty cool to see them all the time. I was up in the dall sheep preserve one winter and found a winter kill. 7\8 curl, one horn measured 36 inches the other 37 inches.

I grew up in Las Vegas and drew a desert bighorn tag when I was 17. I shot a really nice ~13 year old ram that the guys at the DWR office were in awe of. That thing was old! They said I did it a favor by killing it because it probably would have died that winter anyway. I wish I had a pic to post. It's hanging on the wall in my parents house.

I hope to be able to get a Rocky Mountain bighorn before I leave Colorado. The other species will have to wait awhile so I can save up the cash.

Sheep hunting is definitely challenging! Maybe that's why I love it so much.

Don, those sheep, by Idaho Springs-Georgetown will winter right along I-70 in the winter and usually a few big rams will be in there.
WFG, If you have a photo of your ram, we'd love to see it. I have my wife, daughter and I all applying for Colorado sheep and goat, hopefully we'll draw soon.

I took this photo of a slam in Gardiner a couple of weeks ago. This big ram was beautiful.
