What caught my eye was the part that said "It is illegal to kill an alert animal in Canada." So I guess the only way to legally hunt in Canada is to catch wildlife when it's asleep.
But in terms of the meatpacking industry, this statement implies that animals must be anesthetized before being killed. Sounds to me that they're just drawing out the process to protect the self esteem of an animal that has a brain the size of a pea and is only remotely aware of anything beyond eating and reproducing. |

Definitely a quirky statement. I passed it off assuming that the reporter was a covert PETA member infusing proganda into the main stream press. That or it was a typo.... |

First step of field dressing a Canadian deer: close the eyelids before the game warden shows up.
If you shoot a sleeping deer and only wound him, what then? Now he's alert and you can't kill him. :???:

Yeah that is a pickle of a situation. I guess you have to carry tranquilizer darts in order to comply with the law.
This takes fair chase (kill?) to a whole new level.... |

| It sort of reminds me of a case in the news recently concerning a guy being executed in Iran. Just as he was about to be put to death, he had a heart attack. The Iranians revived him and were planning to re-execute him as soon as he was fully recovered. I doubt that KFC is in Iran, though. |

| Yikes!! The policies like that in other countries, it seems the anti-captial punishment crowd would do better than to always bash the U.S.... |

| Good point. Funny news footage of other countries is full of demonstrations against the US, but our country is devoid of it. Frankly, it sickens me to see mass protests against our own country on behalf of a guy who gassed entire villages, uses execution as a means of political control, plotted to asassinate a US president, and is trying to develop WMD. But hey, that's me...Mr Conservative. |

See... now you know why I didn't fill my buck tag this year.
It is real hard to find ducks "sleep-flying" around as well.

Yeah you are definitely a master hunter in my book now ChesterGolf. Stalking game is one thing, but having to sing a lullaby to make Mr. Buck go nighty-night after getting in ear shot....well....lets just say a musical voice and predator instincts isn't something I'm gifted with.

| Sorry Bit, but I don't sing them asleep. My voice would kill them right from the start. I usually get them drunk and wait til they pass out. |

| Hitting ducks is enough of a challenge. But hitting DRUNK ducks...there's the test of a true marksman. |

A brewmaster and a buckmaster, I'm impressed.
Come to think of it, I thought you were joking back a few months ago when you were talking about the cracked corn, deep freezers, and ducks. But with this "alert animal" stuff, perhaps you weren't joking? |
