| I just started out hunting so I dont know all the good fansy guns, but the 1 I know and love is a 35 Remington. With a little more power than a 30-30 it would be my type of gun, I would take a 30-06 anyday though. How bad is the kick in a 7mm and 9mm? I always thought those were huge calibers for huge African game (Ex.Elephant,Rino, and Hippo). |

| A 7mm can come in all recoil ranges from the 7-08 (excellant deer calibre)which is reasonably soft, to the 7mm Rem ultra-mag which is a real kicker. Recoil is a strange thing... the more you get used to shooting your calibre the less recoil affects you. Start getting used to the 30-30. It is an effective deer round and is easy to shoot and carry around. Once you get used to that branch out to other calibres(you may not want to anyway). I started my shooting with a 30-30 then went to a 303 Brit. I now do most of my big game hunting with one of three calibres 308 Win, 30-06 Spfd, and 300 RUM(for moose and bears). I have shot deer with the 30-30 and the 303Brit as well. Most calibres are up for the task if you keep in mind the effective range of the calibre and the effective range of the shooter(just as important) |

I guess my dream rifle would probably be a .308 BLR.
The 7mm varies a lot depending on what type it is - but it's (as far as I know) not generally considered a bad rifle for recoil. The 7mm08 for example is a very mild gun, the 7mm Mag is probably on the light side of moderate.
The 9mm rifle would definitely have some serious snap.

A 308 is for comparison sake a short action 30-06 and has mild recoil. As for $$$, they are common and you can get used ones very reasonable. If you want a cheap rifle look for a milsurplus bolt action. Most are acceptable accuracy and can be found dirt cheap. They are not usually pretty but pretty doesn't bag a deer.
As for my dream gun... the M1 tank would be nice. |

| Actually now that you mention it - I already have my dream gun - Bofors 57mm Mk2. Not huge but 220 rds/min and unbelievable accuracy will wreck anyones day in a hurry. |

My dream gun is a Browning BLR in 35 Whelen with a 23.5 inch barrel and non-glossy finish. Scope would be a Burris 2X to 7X.

I wouldn't want to own one or use one for hunting, but a gatling gun would be a blast to shoot. At least it looks like it would be cool to shoot, never have been around one.
Just something cool about a multi-barrel hand cranked gun....

Count me in for a good old fashioned Tommy Gun. Rollin in Dick Tracey style, flames blazin. Yessir, a good ol typewriter.
Or maybe a Desert Eagle .50 cal - I know, totally cheesy. But if you haven't seen the movie "Snatch" (No it's not porn!) go rent it and you'll want one too! |

Two votes for OZ. The scene in reference is hilarious.

My pick would be a Krieghoff Classic Big Five side by side double rifle chambered in either 500/416 flanged or 470NE. I would have a Swavorski PV-I 1.25-4x24 scope on quick release mounts.
If I can ever scrounge up the money I would love to stalk Cape Buffalo at close range in Africa. The age of hunting the big five is passing quickly but I would have love to live in a time where that would be possible.
Grrr.... Must... Stop... Reading... Capstick!
