Thought I'd get a rifle to target shoot and maybe hunt some coyotes. I was thinking .223 because the ammo can be gotten pretty cheap, but heard the .22-250 was a nice flat bullet.
Any ideas? |

| I use the 220 swift but either of the two calibers you stated will do fine. The 22-250 will give you a bit of range over the 223. My set-up is on a rem 700 with a heavy barrel with a 3.5-10 Leupold Vari-x III. |

| What is a "heavy barrel" and why is that good? Thanks. |

| A heavy barrel, also known as a "bull" barrel, is a barrel that has a larger outside diameter. It reduces the vibration the shot produces and will increase accuracy in most cases. It can assist in cooling the barrel faster due to increased surface area. It also reduces felt recoil because of the heavier overall weight. For what it is worth, I love my .220 swift but if I was going to replace my .220 swift I would buy the 22-250. |

| Thanks for the info. So, Chester, are you also a golfer? Or, is there some other meaning to your handle? |

I am a golf course superintendent but I do play some as well. After spending 12 hrs a day on the course working it is usually the last place I want to see when I'm off. :=; |

| I used to play a lot when I was "moving" up the ranks but after I got to the super level the work load used up my free time and now my free time is spent at the rifle range or in the woods. :thumbsup1: |
