| Can anyone give me an idea of what Oryx tastes like, Whitetail, Blackbuck, Elk, Axis? I'm looking forward to hunting Oryx in the near future and don't know if I should spend the money to have the meat processed or just cape for a beautiful mount. I'd hate for the meat to go to waste if it's good to eat. Thanks, CK |

| Sorry but I dont even know what an Oryx is? Im just starting to hunt, acually I never have been on a hunt yet, but hopfully soon. WHATS AN ORYX, sounds like a water buffolo. |

| An Scimitar Horned Oryx is a large (~400-450lb) antelope, I believe from Africa. It looks like a small horse almost, white with some brown, long (40") horns, ribbed, slopping back. Do a search on one of the sites like google or yahoo and you should find some pictures. Thanks for replying, CK |

| I'm going to a ranch in Fredericksburg called Rancho del Sol. It has been featured several times on the Gary Finch hunting show. They have Oryx, Whitetail, Axis, Red Stag/Elk hybrid, Fallow, Zebra, Blackbuck and Rams. It is a really nice setup with a beautiful house and pool. All the game are fed high protien year-round. Bigtex,
When is your hunt with Mike and Raymond? They are good guys and you should have a fun hunt. Oryx is some of the best exotic meat you will eat. It is big grained like beef and almost any recipe you use for beef will work for oryx. I especially like it as chicken fried steaks with mash potatoes and gravey. |

I've done some work at White Sands Missile Range in NM and there's Oryx running wild all over the place there. You're right about the "small horse" description. That's exactly what I thought when trying to describe body shape. They were bigger than what I'd expected, and you'll definitely get some meat off one -- especially considering that what I saw at WSMR was living off the desert vs high protein feed. But the best part is the awesome facial coloring and impressive-looking horns on even average animals -- it'll make a terrific mount for the wall, but hope you have high ceilings.

| Hi Denvas, I'm going to Rancho del Sol next weekend. I'm really looking forward to the hunt and the beautiful accomodations. They really have a great setup there in Fredericksburg. I think Michael will be my guide, don't know if Raymond will be there. Sounds like you've been there before, what's you name?, so I can tell Michael you said hello. You're right, they are absolutely beautiful animals. I'm trying to decide on a mount and leaning towards a pedistal. Like you said, don't know if I have high enough ceilings for a wall mount. How was your hunt with Michael? I talked to him on Wednesday of last week and he was surprised when I told himI had heard about your hunt on this forum. I met Micheal and Raymond through a gentleman that I do youth hunts with, at a youth exotic dinner and outdoor event we had here in Houston last April. I had just returned from the McNutt ranch where my kids and I had taken 6 does for the dinner. I believe that Raymond and Michael had also donted some meat for the event. Anyway, they have become friends of mine and they have a really nice set up at Rancho del Sol. |

| Hey Denvas, it was a great hunt. We tracked the Oryx herd for about three hours on the mule and foot. The zebra kept messing up my shot and it took two to get him down but WOW what a beautiful animal. They have a great place there in Fredericksburg. It was a great trip.
