| I don't know - but it couldn't hurt to check it out. In Canada they wouldn't (or highly unlikely that they would) due to our laws. If nothing else you get out mixing and mingling with other shooters/hunters and experts. |

On a related topic. I think it's great that you're getting into hunting and shooting and I definitely encourage you to do so. The swap meet/gun show is an excellent place fo ryou to be, even if you don't find an answer to your ammunition problem. Most of all from there you can hopefully find a good hunting club where you can hang out with and learn from more experienced hunters.
I fully understand your impatience - I'm in a bit of a similar situation myself waiting for my Firearms license so I can buy a rifle (I gave mine to my brother when I left home and let my old license expire - big mistake).
Hunting is a great sport but it does have the potential to be dangerous, and even deadly. Usually these tragedies are the result of inexperienced or careless people. The fact that you're putting some research and thought into this process tells me you're probably not careless.
Join a hunting club especially one that has a young hunters chapter - I'm positive that through them you'll not only solve a lot of your immediate problems, but you'll become a better, safer and more succesful hunter. |

| Thanks for the advise but I always thought hunter clubs were for retired old guys that had nothing else to do but sit around telling "Once upon a time" stories about there hunts. Most likly im wrong by what you said so ill look into it. Could maybe tell me some of the activities that they do. Cause I dont want to embarres the club, if you know what I mean! Thanks for the advise!(I go back to school tommorow) |

| LOL, Saskie has a good point. Another good organization to join while you're at it is the NRA. Some of the folks on this forum (myself included) no doubt have a few burrs under their saddles when it comes to erosion of gun rights. As a minor, I'm sure you've noted how yours are just about gone. If you enjoy that .30-30, help make sure you get to keep it. |

The only such organization that I am familiar with was the local Fish and Game League in my home town. I'll start by admitting up front that I never did join it because we lived too far from town and Dad couldn't spare the time to drive me in. I did check the place out as much as I could. Membership was reasonably cross-sectioned althouh yes most of the members were older - not necessarily retirees though but probably 40-50 age bracket. They held meetings once a week. Yes, there was definitely a lot of people sitting around telling war stories about the monster buck of '68 and the 25lb walleye that got away. I like listening to those stories...once.
Anyway they would usually try to have a guest speaker brought in. Sometimes it would just be the local RCMP or Fish Cop to go over safety/hunting regs, others would be a rep from DNR to go over the results of aerial moose counts, deer forecasts, fishing reports etc etc.
They had a on-going semi-formal trophy contest for fish, and in season game too. It was really interesting and if I were in your shoes that's where I'd be. Mixed in with the war stories you'll get some good advice, you'll make some friends and may even find someone who would be willing to take you hunting or to the range with them. |

I can't answer that...our town was a very small rural town where everything was cheap (because nobody had any money anyway). I think it was something like $40 for the year and maybe 200 mbrs total on the books with around 40-50 at any given "regular" meeting.
Bakersfield probably has more selection and I wouldn't have a clue how much they would be. |

| Ya cause Bakersfield now has over 300,000 people. And I doubt there would be lots of clubs so they might have tons of members. Also like what activities do they have in your knowledge? |

Lever: Once you pass your hunter ED. class
You may be able to help teach hunter ED. In Montana we have jr. instructors. Check with your instructor next month when you take your class. |

| I think what Gunslinger is saying is that if there isn't hunt clubs available, getting involved through the hunter ed may be a way to meet/work with other hunters.... |
