I am in need of a cheaper bullet for my 30-30 winchester. I pay 15$ for 20 bullets, and I think thats a little much! If you know where to find a cheaper bullet that would be great so plz tell me.
I also need to know what kind of bullet to use for certain distances. With a 30-30 a deers not going to be killed to likly at 150+ yards in my oppion. So if you could tell me what grain/and name brand I should use for 50yards,and 100+yards that would be a great help thanks.

A 30-30 will definitely kill deer out to 200yds. The rule of thumb for effectiveness with deer is 1000 ft/lbs of energy are required to do the job cleanly.
Regardless of manufacturer - all off the shelf 30-30's in 150gr bullets are capable of this (or close to it).
You can check out cartridge performance for various calibres at http://www.winchester.com, or http://www.remington.com. Follow the links to their ballistics tables.
As you will see, 200yds is the limit for a 30-30, but it is definitely effective out to that range. |

I was on the Winchester site and it said something like 100ct. 12.85$. Whats CT. mean? And whats the difference between 180gr. and 150gr.?

I can't help you with the CT - I can't find it.
150gr/165gr/170gr are all the weight (sort of) of the bullet (how many grains of lead were used to make it). Bigger bullets travel slower but hit harder (generally - heavier bullets also travel slower so at longer ranges they won't be as effective).
150 gr 30-30 is fine for deer. I wouldn't reccomend using any bullet on deer less than 100gr - as long as it meets the 1000lb rule.
I'll agree that you probably won't do much better on price, unless you find a handloader (someone that makes their own cartridges) and they can probably do it for you cheaper than off the shelf.
If you go that route - make sure that they know what they're doing. The advantage of factory ammo for dummies like me and you is that you know what you're getting (this is ammunition remember - not computer parts).
If I were in your shoes I'd join a gun club or just hang out at the range and make some friends there. Then maybe you can go splits on a box or buy fewer rounds. Most shooters I know are very willing to help new and especially younger people take up the sport.

It doesn't have to be an exact match...170 gr will be fine for deer. If you've been using 170 stay with 170 for now until you have the time/means to get familiar with something else.

You might also want to check out another forum at http://www.secretsofthehunt.com. They have a forum dedicated to young hunters and might have more suggestions.

| CT stands for "count", it simply means the quanity. As far as bullets, The 150 grain will probably do you the best.this bullet will offer the flattest trajectory, and that is what will determine maximum range. |

| I agree that 150 is best, but don't throw out your 170's especially when you're having a tough time getting bullets as it is. They'll work, but 150's will work better. |

| Not a problem at all. Once upon a time someone did the same for me. I'm just returning the favour. |
