| Anyone care to comment on hunting moose in Newfoundland? Is it advisable to be there for the opener? Any tricks on using the ferry to get there? I am planning a fall hunt, probably in zone 15. I would appreciate hearing your comments. |

I made two trips there, both in October (2003 & 2005).
Both times I saw a good number of good animals.
I missed out on an animal in '03 (my fault) and got a very nice moose in 2005.
Both trips were second week of October.
If you haven't booked an outfitter, huntinfo.com has several listed when you do a search for outfitter reviews/ Newfoundland. My group was very happy both times with Newfoundland Wilderness Outfitters, FWIW. |

I'd take the ferry a day earlier just in case the weather creates a problem ,make and confirm your reservation early. Can't recommend an oufitter or area.

| hey fishdog---You sure picked a good place to go for moose. I have been hunting with the same outfitter since 1998. Going back in 07. Call Ron Hicks of Snowshoe Lake Hunting and Fishing 1-888-you-hunt. He has an excellent reputation and a lodge with hot showers etc.license and guides, meals included in hunt cost, Tell ron that Don Hertz sent you. |
