well I did it I went hunting for the first time. I saw 6 birds on the way to the ranch 3 big toms, I hiked a total of 4-5 miles and saw one bird as it flew away and six birds on the way home. I chased the one up a large hill to come up with nothing. So I headed deeper into the property to set up. I called & called to try and locate a bird, with no results. So I hiked some more finding nothing. So I hiked back out to try another spot. Which I did. I found a nice hillside where it looked like some turkeys had been, saw some droppings. I set up again, calling and listening, calling and listening. I heard a crow reply so I kept calling, then I heard something different. Sounded like a turkey but I wan't sure. I listened then let out a few more clucks & yelps. Then silence, I never saw him so I couldn't say what is was for sure. I sat there for another 10 mintues or so then hiked back out looking and listening. Since I had a 3+ hour drive home I dicided to call it a day. So I went home empty handed but I'm hoping to go again in two weeks. Wish me luck.
Oh almost forgot. On the drive home I almost hit a hen on the two lane. Isn't that ironic. Don't see squat while hunting but had to try not to kill one driving home empty handed.
Here's the first place I set up
Here's the other
Here's the turtle I picked up in the middle of the road and placed off the road.

Sounds like a good start, you at least found some. Is it possible to get there when they fly off roost, setup before day break? Did you hear any gobblin? Looks like a nice place. Keep at 'em and Good Luck!

I tried to get there before sun up but I'd have to leave here at 3am. Which I tried but just couldn't get up. I work nights so it's hard. But next time I will. I didn't hear any gobble nor did I hear any gun shots. I wish I would have at least that would have been some signs that there were more than the one.

No this place was just past lake berryessa. Knoxville Wildlife area is it's name. I'm hoping to go one more time before the season is over.
