Last year I discovered a turkey mecca. I had never hunted this area before and decided to try it out for the first time last year. It had been a scraggly pasture( 80 acres) with tall weeds and grass, but a fire got away from the neighbor and burned 3/4 of this pasture. By the time the season opened the grass was starting to come back, nice short and green. Perfect place for these toms to strut their stuff. These birds loved this place. Had 2-3 different groups of about 10-20 birds, 3-7 strutting toms in each group. Hunted here throughout the whole season and the activity was hot all the way through.
The toms and hens were roosting here during the deer season.
Now this same pasture is back to being scraggly. Will these birds act in the same manner as last year? I can't wait to find out!!!!!!!! Only 3 weeks away!!!!!!!! :D

Only one way to find out....It would be nice if the pasture was kept up or atleast part of it.. The turkeys would like it more if part of it was nice and open...They will still visit it though..

Good luck

My Turkey mentor took his 14 year old neighbor on her first hunt (youth hunt) today. They went to this pasture and heard gobblin and callin all morning. Apparently all they turkeys flew off roost and gathered up on adjoining property.
However, they were able to call 2 Toms in. She shot at one at 20 yds and missed her would be first Turkey :](*,)
I'll be out there next weekend to check it out.

Couple more reports from this pasture. My mentor's son went out opening day and filled a tag, and my mentor went out Sat. morning, but was unsuccessful. He was able to get them called in, but it was windy and he was in a double bull blind and using his gun to keep the side of blind from blowing in(should have tied it down like your suppose to). When he removed the gun to shoot the wind blew in the blind and turkeys fled. :[-X Not sure I can call him my mentor anymore :o

So, the turkeys are using the area. Just not the same as last year where they flew in off roost and the hunt was over. Takes a little more work and time to convince them to come your way, but I think it's more rewarding! I haven't hunted here yet. I flipped a coin and went to a new place where I had success.
