| Did yall hear that PETA is gathering fur coats to give to the homeless this holiday season? kinda strange i thought. They said they don't want the fur to go to waist but it seems to me thats just supporting the fur coat companies. Thats all i heard about it, i don't know any details. |

| Cob, a few weeks ago PETA was in Denver getting lots of publicity for giving fur coats to the homeless. They also had various celebrities helping in the handout. When I first saw the story, I didn't think I had heard right - PETA handing out fur coats?? By the way it wasn't just a few coats, but lots! The homeless loved it, but the publicity stunt didn't make sense to me. Personally I feel the homeless would have been better served if they had been given warm meals and a warm place to sleep - not used to further PETA's cause. |

PETA doesn't give squat to animal shelters, so supporting people shelters obviously wouldn't be on their agenda, either. Perhaps those in the fur industry should embrace the "fur for the homeless" program and start a new organization: Animals for the Ethical Treatment of People.
If PETA supports fur for the homeless, shouldn't they support programs that encourage venison donations to the needy as well? Last year Alabama hunters donated something like 20 tons of venison to food banks.

Must have missed the Denver donation drive, but here is an article about a similar situation in Toronto.

A PETA spokeswoman says the only people who should wear furs are the truly destitute.
So I assume this means that PETA supports the idea that it is ok to use/consume animals if the person doing the using/consuming is needy. |

Bit, I'm not sure what PETA's message is/was with the fur coat handouts. They started the handout with their typical animal right's rally, then handed out tons of fur coats. It left me scratching my head - like huh???
And the comment that only the truly destitute are entitled to wear fur, how can that make sense to anyone. But then PETA has never made sense to me - ever. Like Ex said they have never donated to animal shelters or any cause that would truly help animals or people. What a bunch of hypocrites.
