Occasionally I watch hunting shows and read a hunting mag or two. Without fail in an article or tv show their will be a celebrity hunter either endorsing a product or explaining their technique much like that Aussie "Crocodile Hunter guy". I'm not talking about celebrities who hunt (Kevin Bacon with a gun getting footloose), but famous names within the hunting industry.

Without fail, I have no name recognition at all with any of these people that are touted as celebrities.

Do any of you have name recognition with celebrity hunters? In my opinion, hunting is highly challenging, but it is not really competitive in the sense that other sports are, thus their really isn't a realm in which "celebrities" can become famous and have name recognition, like say Babe Ruth.

This thread shouldn't be confused with "Hunting Celebrities". From the fury raised in Cob's "rich hunter thread" at Ted Turner, I'm sure their probably are at least a few celebrities you all would like to hunt down... and... and... and... ...why tar and feather them!

Ok, I guess by original post doesn't make any sense. What I was trying to ask was do any of you consider there to be "hunting celebrities"? In other words, big names that everybody knows. I recognize a few names like "Ted Nugent", but that is more because of his rock and roll past.

That is interesting about the A's, Maineguide. Perhaps your friend was lucky enough to hunt with the Big Mac back when he played with the A's?

There is a cople who come to mind Jackie Bushman and the one I admire the most, Jim Shockey. Are they celeb. that can't walk down the street with out getting mobbed... no. But they promot our sport to a level that is needed in this anti-gun, anti-hunting, anti-shooting world we live in. The reason I admire and respect Jim Shockey is that he is a stalker and hunts with a muzzle-loader.

For me there would be some names that I recognize = such as Dave Watson, Jim Shockey and others from TV, but I doubt they would ever get mobbed at the local WalMart
