I'm finaly headed out for a hunt this weekend. I've got a few places scouted out and best of all we are going to get snow tomorrow. I've got all day Saturday and most of the day Sunday. I'm going to check out a few leads that I got on a location of a few dens on Saturday and then a buddy of mine is going with me on Sunday up near Red Feather to a few spots that have been producing tracks.
I won't be using dogs this weekend. Does any one have any tips for me?
Wish me luck!!!
Thanks :thumbsup1: |

Well I didn’t get one. Big surprise!! Saturday was more of a hike than I was ready for. I did find some very fresh tacks and they led to a spot where it had scraped a pile of dirt and twigs and peed on them. I saw 17 Elk and a few ptarmigan. I went a little over 12 miles in the mountains and most of that was very steep with 50-60 lbs on my back. I came out at a different spot than I went in and had to walk a little over 3 miles to the truck. Does anyone know how to get people to stop and give you a ride when you’re carrying a gun? People just waive and speed up. :](*,)
Sunday was a lot of off-roading in the truck. Not many tracks but some great scenery and I located a few great spots to go camping. :thumbsup1:
I’m headed to Pagosa Springs on Thursday to check out a few GMU’s down there and they have lots of snow so wish me luck. |

| Well not such a great trip to Pagosa for hunting. Seems like all the land west of Pagosa is Indian Reservation. No hunting, We drove thru Indian land to get to national forrest and that is where all the tracks are. Once we got on BLM land it looked like all the wildlife had moved to the reservation. Guess I'll stay closer to home where I can hunt. :](*,) |
