I am planning to hunt with Club Chambeaux, unguided this fall... anything I should know, should or shouldn't do. There will be at least three of us going. We have all hunted in the U.S. for years, but this is a first for caribou. THANKS

Should:
: Get a bug jacket, the black flys up there eat bug dope for breakfast then look for blood. Could be you southern boys have hunted far enough North of the M/D line to run into Black Flys but if not they are much worse than skeeters, and in Northern Quebec they are thick all through Sept into Oct.

: Be able to hit a 1gal. milk jug at 100 yds every time.

: Bring rain gear, it will rain. (Also good waterproof boots)

: Have a good set of Binocs (the best you can afford)

: Have a good (big) back pack that you can pack out the quartered animal with.

:A bone saw

Last tip, it is very wet up there, ponds, rivers and a lot of the land is mucky/spagnom swamps. Keep moving when you hit swampy land if the footing under you stars acting like it is going to give way speed up and make a sweeping U-turn. Never, I said never stop to asses the situation or turn around.

Thanks ADKBEAR, I've encountered black flys several times in the past. Make sure if you ever have the chance to hunt the swamps in eastern NC or SC, remember that bug suit... those "skeeters" feel like birds when they land on your neck... and take pints at a time. Thanks again.
