Ohhh Serious Hunter do you need another addiction? Turkeys my friend. You start talking to them in the spring time and listen to them talking back.....you'll be hooked the first time a dominant gobbler fires off a gobble right in your face :thumbsup1:
You definatly need to try that. |

Arghh ... I was waiting for your reply - and it came in just as expected. I cannot right now ... I need to get work out the door that should have been completed `in hunting season'. The pile of pin feathers on my file cabinet brings great reward but buys little groceries. Let me get caught up on other stuff in life ... then I'll perhaps make myself vulnerable to another addiction. If I am `good' between now and the opening day of bear and/or turkey - maybe. Just the thought of a few remaining quail and chukar out there in the fleeting days of upland season is bad enough.
And I am wrestling with ways to make these addictions at least self-supporting ... |

Yeah, me too!
I spent a few months prior to my first turkey hunt reading 2 magazines. Turkey and Turkey Hunting (most articles deal with the biology of turkeys) and another one called "beards and spurs" or something like that (It was 10 yrs ago or so), the second mag was basicaly all hunting stratagies. I studied those magazines inside and out for a few months, read them each at least 5 times and went out and killed a turkey at 9am on the first day of the season! I thought "this turkey hunting stuff is easy!". Man, was I wrong! I hunted about 10 more days (and almost the entire next season) before getting another one.
If you could hook up with someone thats pretty good at calling them and spend a morning out there in the spring time, you'll see what I mean. |

Let's see what happens. A new friend has offered to take me out both bear hunting and turkey hunting this Spring - neither of which I have done. When I get caught up a bit more around here - I think perhaps I'll take him up on it. Generally in the Spring I deny myself hunting pleasures and try and make more money - either to pay off the previous fall - or ready for the one ahead.
... in the last 24 hours I got an overdue project off my desk (Yeah!) ... so maybe, just maybe, tomorrow morning after dropping the children at school I'll grab my Rem 870 20 ga. with cylinder barrel and some upland loads and see if I can find any sole-survivor quail in vicinity. Busy week and month end - but a man has to do what he has to do ( ... hunt while he can still hunt). |

| Update ... well, did a quick loop looking for some sole survivor quail ... didn't find any. Probably around, somewhere, a few, hopefully. But did jump half doz pheasants - good for reproduction - replenishment. And, yes, ran into a herd of about 15 TURKEYS. And ... to `finish up' the season, drove by one of my quack spots (season closed last Friday) ... and a few ducks were right where they're supposed to be. |
