Joe Williams a taxidermist from Virginia harvested this 16 point stag on 9/2/05. Joe is going to do a full body mount and display this in his den/ museum. Joe saw numerous stags, hinds and lambs before he saw this one. He was very pleased :D.
Fast forward 7 months.
The finished mount in Joe's Den, which is nearly filled to capacity !!!
:D
Joe was a first class client and I wish he lived closer because he does real nice work. Joe is enjoying his retirement from the phone company. He began his taxidermy while still climbing poles and repairing lines. His den is loaded with just about every North American big game species, plus exotics , birds, predictors , a weasel, mink, otter and even a large snapping turtle. He is a professional from the get go. ......Oh yea , and a nice full body white tail buck.
His desire to hunt a red stag began while he was in college. Joe even painted a red stag while in college which hangs in his den. It was surely a pleasure to have met Joe and I hope to see him again someday. He and his wife really liked Maine and vow to return !
If anyone is from the Chesapeake Virginia area and wants to see his trophy room or use his taxidermy service you can reach Joe at (757)547-4833.
Here is the rest of the Den !!!!

Here is Joe (center) as he prepares to cape the head. Joe is being assisted by Registered Maine Guide Bob Applebee (left) and Myself on the right.
I've caped a lot of heads but Joe showed me a real time saving tip. He uses a large flat head screwdriver to help remove the cape from the peticle area. It is a great way to accurately cape a difficult area. Once you get it started you use a hammer and tap the screwdriver and follow the antler base. It works great , I was useing a small caping knife and the results were good but it took a lot longer...... The screwdriver method can save a half hour of work ! |

NAHC Life Member Robert Camp from Lake Michigan harvested a nice 13 point stag with his Mathews bow on 9/11/06. He made a double lung shot from 30 yards and the stag piled up within 100 feet.
Bob and his wife made a 21 hour , non stop trip to Maine.
We now have a new meat processor that can have your deer processed and Blast Frozen for travel "Next Day" which saves big money when you compare the Next Day Fed-ex fee's. Even those that fly can take their meat as a checked piece of luggage.

The Virginia crew with their antlers. We pressure wash the skull plate for transport home. We start by cleaning the bulk of flesh and brain matter with a caping knife and then let the pressure washer do the rest. It saves a ton of time! |

Gerald McCort from South Clairsville Ohio scored on this nice 14 pointer from 85 yards. He shoulder shot this stag and dropped him in his tracks.
Gerald's hunting buddy Dennis Lawrence is going after a female today. He saw several yesterday but none within range.
Dennis works for SSK and beleive me these guys know their pistols and know what they can do. They fired numerous rounds at the range and these guys can shoot!
Check out their site:
http://www.sskindustries.com/ssk.htm
Free hand they were hitting dead center at 50 yards............At 100 yards they could put their lead in a 3 inch ring. They had at least 10 different Contenders with them. Tom and I were very impressed to say the least. They admitted to being competition shooters and they were not just bragging..............Gerald told me that he was going to take a shoulder shot because he does not like to chase wounded deer and that's what he did. Dennis and Gerald frequently practice at 200 yards!!! |
