Today was my first day duck hunting. Me and a buddy were in one boat and two other guys were in another. We were taking turns sneaking around the creek bends and shooting what we saw, but not alot out today The other two got a drake and hen mallard, and my buddy and I both got drake wood ducks. They're at the taxidermist now. I think I'm hooked!!!
Mine is the one closest to the camera. |

That must have been a fun hunt!
Nice trophy. If I get one of those I'm getting it mounted too. |

What a fabulous way to start with those drake wood-ducks. Congrats!
I have access to a nice spot this season. There are several hundred mallards in the area, some widgeon from time to time, and a single drake pintail - beautiful plummage. I am going to concentrate my efforts on the pintail and see if I can get him.
My experience in Idaho is almost entirely mallards, some widgeon, once or twice gadwall, and rarely do we see pintail or wood ducks. Oh, there are a few teal, but they fly too fast to count.
Duck hunting is addictive. About the time I think I'm quite satisfied with what I have (in the freezer) ... the satisfaction disappears, and I must go back out. |

| I have all but abandoned my first love (of deer hunting) and my girlfriend for that matter(at least during hunting hours  ) for the pursuit of these little winged beasts. I have hunted 5 of the past 7 days. I was able to take another wood duck drake. I have been exploring new sections of the river and contemplating hunting new rivers. |

| That's how me and my budies hunt here in New Brunswick, Duck's unlimited made some zig zag's in the medows of Grand Lac, we each take our turns in front of the canue, the shots are at 20 to 30 yd between each turn and you only have about 15 ft width of chanel so you have to be quick on the draw when you come around the turn. ALet me tell you its a real chalenge. I'm a guide here in NB and in thinking of starting to guide people in these Zig Zags. |
