|
|
| I'll be hunting in unit 111 in Nevada in about 2 weeks, and I'm wondering if anyone has elk hunted this area and can give me any tips. There are lots of elk in the Schell Creek Range in the early fall, and I know where they are and am familiar with this area, just not sure of what to expect in mid-November. I've heard the cattle camp area in 222 can be a hot spot as well, just not familiar with this area. Anyone help me out here? Took me 12 years to draw this tag, and I DO NOT want to screw this one up. :thumbsup1: |

You are probably already in the area hunting but good luck to you!
I just returned from a late muzzleloader deer hunt there. I saw so many big deer and elk there. I was hunting area 115 right next to the National Park.
The elk are pretty much everywhere down there. The horse and cattle camp area is good, up high above Taylor mine is still good, and really anywhere with mountains and water you will find elk. I hunted Weaver Creek and saw a beautiful 6X6 every day for four days. This is even with elk hunters in the area. They just weren't hiking in far enough. I could have easily shot it with a muzzleloader. (100-150 yds). He never even knew I was there. |

Not up there yet, work constraints
Will be up there from 19-27 or until I get one. Thanks for the info, I will look there. When you say the hunters weren't hiking in far enough, what is far enough? |

I was only hiking in 1-2 miles. Most of the hunters would get out of their trucks and hike to the top of the adjacent ridge, maybee 500 yds.
This bull was easily accessable but could only be seen once you got in a little way.
Your entire area is full of elk. Don't be afraid to do a litte walking. |

You did good!
How many elk did you see? I bet it was a lot.
Enjoy your kill; nothing beats fresh elk. |
